Who is responsible

Write to [email protected] or call 0208 144 0444 about anything on this page. If you are asking to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, say so in the first line, so it reaches the director rather than being answered as an ordinary enquiry. We will reply within one month.

What the enquiry form stores

When you send an enquiry we store the name, the email address, the phone number if you give one, the postcode, what you wrote in the message, the organisation and the document pack where a professionals page asked for them, the page the form was on, which form it was, and the browser user agent string your browser sent with the request.

We store it so that somebody can call or email you back about the work you asked about. That is the only reason it is kept and the only thing it is used for. It is never sold, never used to advertise to you and never passed to anyone outside the two services named below.

Your IP address is not stored. It is counted, and only counted, to stop the form being used five times an hour from one connection. That counter holds a number against your address and nothing else, and it is deleted an hour after it is set.

We also store how you found us. If you arrive from a link we have shared, the address carries a few short campaign labels and we keep those alongside the enquiry, together with the address of the page that sent you, and your answer if you tell us how you heard about us. It is there so we know which of the things we do are worth doing. It is never used to build a profile of you, it is never combined with anything bought from anyone else, and it goes when the enquiry goes.

Why we are allowed to hold it

We hold your enquiry on the basis of our legitimate interests, which is Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR. The interest is a plain one: you have asked us to price or carry out work and we cannot do that without your details. We have weighed it against your privacy and taken the view that nobody is surprised to be contacted about the job they asked about.

If the enquiry becomes a job, we hold the record to perform our contract with you, which is Article 6(1)(b), and to meet our tax and accounting obligations, which is Article 6(1)(c).

You can object to our use of legitimate interests at any time, and if you do we will stop unless we have a compelling reason not to. The section on your rights below says how.

Where it is kept and who else sees it

• Cloudflare hosts this site and runs the code that receives the form. The enquiry is stored in a Cloudflare D1 database in the Western Europe region, and the rate limit counter is in Cloudflare KV.
• Resend sends the enquiry on to our office as an email, to [email protected].
• Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the form was sent by a person rather than by a script. It runs only while it is switched on, and it is the only third party script this site is able to load.

How long it is kept

If your enquiry does not turn into a job we keep it for twelve months from the last time we spoke, and then delete it. Twelve months is one full cycle in this trade: people get prices, think about it over a winter and come back in the spring, and we would rather know what we quoted than ask you to explain it again.

If your enquiry does turn into a job, the record becomes part of that job and we keep it for six years from the end of the financial year the work finished in. That is not a preference. We are required to keep the tax records for six years, and six years is also the period in which a claim can be brought on a contract, so we would be unable to answer one if we had thrown the file away.

The rate limit counter is the one thing with a period already set: one hour, after which it deletes itself.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, so there is no cookie banner to click through. It runs no analytics: nothing counts your visit and nothing follows you from page to page. The one thing we record about how you arrived is the campaign labels and referring site described above, and we record it only at the moment you send an enquiry. Read the site and leave, and we keep nothing at all. If any of that ever changes, this page changes first.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with how we answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
